JJ’s hosted the Women’s Northern Trophies Cumbria Pool Singles competition, which again attracted a strong entry.
Defending champion Brianna Messenger was looking to make it three championships in a row and she started off positively with a 3-0 victory in the last 16.
When it came to the quarter finals, though, her fantastic record of making it to every final ended as Sarah Messenger took a nice clearance to win 3-2.
Twice champion previously Moo Stamper looked in good form with a 3-0 quarter final win which set up a semi-final with Katarzyna Wyszomierska who had edged a tight quarter final against the impressive Heather Gibbon 3-2.
With a fantastic potting display. Katarzyna potted two tough cut back blacks to race into a 2-0 lead. Moo pulled one back and when Katarzyna fouled on a black ball pot the match was tied at 2-2.
In the decider a tactical frame saw Katarzyna get the first chance to win and she took it with a controlled superb long black down the cushion to win 3-2.
Sarah Messenger never looked in trouble in her semi as she put on a doubling display to take the lead 2-0. Despite a fouled black to give her opponent a frame, Sarah regrouped and controlled the fourth frame to win 3-1.
The final saw Katarzyna claim the first frame with some nice controlled pots. The second frame went tactical at the end but Sarah pulled off a sensational double on the black to level the match.
Katarzyna again controlled the third frame and took it with a tidy clearance while In the fourth both players had chances but Katarzyna kept her composure and potted a long black to win the match 3-1 and take her first women’s championship.

In the West Coast Thermal Open Doubles final Kevin Kirkham and Paul Vickers took on defending champions Alan McLeod and Gavin Simpson.
In a high quality match it was Vickers and Kirkham who raced into a 2-0 lead. McLeod and Simpson then clawed their way back into the match with a controlled clearance to make it 2-2 but made a critical mistake in the fifth frame to allow Kirkham and Vickers to take the lead again.
In the sixth frame McLeod and Simpson made a great clearance to set up a final frame decider.
In a tight frame to win the match it was McLeod and Simpson who ran out of position with three yellows to go and that allowed Kirkham and Vickers the chance to take out the clearance which they duly delivered to take the West Coast Thermal Open Doubles Title 4-3.

In the West Coast Thermal B and C League Doubles final Lewis King and Tom Wren Junior faced Andi Nielsen and Aaron Holmes.
The final started quite scrappily from both pairs, teams, trying to get their colours set and working out their clearances but it was Wren and King who kept their composure to take a commanding 3-0 lead through some great long shots and positional play.
Nielsen and Holmes got a frame back as they capitalised on a mistake from Wren and King to get back into the match.
However, the Harrington Legion pair got over the line after a nice clearance to win 4-3 for their maiden doubles title in the Workington league.
