Lakes College is proud to announce the launch of Lillyhall Sixth Form, a new centre dedicated to A-level study, opening this September.
The new centre will allow students in the area the option to study A-levels in a professional setting, bridging the gap between school and the next stage of education or employment while offering a more adult learning experience that reflects university or the workplace.
Students will work in industry-standard science laboratories, modern classrooms and high-quality learning spaces, while having full access to the range of college facilities, including a contemporary canteen, gym and excellent transport links.
The launch responds directly to the Government’s recent White Paper, which outlines three key post-16 pathways: A-levels, T-levels and the new V-levels.
Lillyhall Sixth Form ensures that young people in West Cumbria can access all three routes locally, giving them greater choice and flexibility in shaping their future.
Students will be able to choose a traditional A-level pathway or combine A-levels with a Level 3 vocational qualification.
This flexible approach allows learners to tailor their study programme to suit their ambitions, whether progressing to university, a degree apprenticeship or skilled employment.
Courses available from launch include maths, core maths, biology, chemistry, physics, psychology, sociology, business and combined English, with additional subjects planned for future years.

“Our aim is to create an environment where students can achieve strong academic outcomes while also developing the skills, confidence and experiences they need for the future.
“Ultimately, we want every young person in West Cumbria to have access to a high-quality pathway that helps them progress into university, employment or further study with confidence.”
Lakes College has links with more than 700 employers and leverages these strong partnerships to enrich learning, offering students meaningful connections to industry and future career pathways.

In addition to academic study, students will benefit from a wide range of support and enrichment opportunities, including careers advice, UCAS guidance, CV development, free breakfasts, gym discounts and access to student perks.
This holistic approach is designed to support not only academic success, but also personal growth, confidence and career readiness.
The college is hosting a Lillyhall Sixth Form Open Evening on Tuesday, April 14 between 5pm and 7pm.
This will take place in the National College for Nuclear building on the college campus, directly off the A596 opposite Burger King.
