After week eight of the Maryport Pool League two teams remain joint top as Sun Inn Sharks lead on frame difference from Butchers A.
Both teams are in fine form and in their latest match the Sharks played host to Maryport Rugby League Club A but suffered an early setback in the first frame when Craig Thompson beat Tony Dunn.
The second frame was a tactical affair lasting a good 20 minutes as Luke Kershaw came out on top for the Sharks, getting the better of David Holliday tolevel the match.
David Wilson made it 2-1 for the Sharks swiftly followed by captain Mel Scott who made it 3-1.
The doubles began in the same vain as Kershaw and Dunn earned the vital fourth point to secure the victory. Wilson and Ryan Bedford then made it 5-1 before Kershaw and Wilson wrapped up a 6-1 victory for the Sharks.
Rivals Butchers A also fell behind 1-0 in their match with Glasson Rangers as Kieran Hughes defeated Kevin Gartland. Then George Close, Lee Volkaerts and Colin Stables gave Butchers a commanding 3-1 lead heading into the doubles.
Gartland and Stables secured the win and although Cam Stuart and Hughes pulled one back to make it 4-2, Gartland and Volkaerts took the final frame to win it 5-2 for the Butchers A.
Swan made it five wins on the bounce as they beat Grasslot Welfare 5-2 where there were singles wins for Mark Mattocks, Matty Little and Simon Pattinson to put them three clear before Trevor Bethwaite kept Welfare in with a chance by winning the last single.
Carl Daley and Mattocks took the opening double to seal the game 4-1 but Lee Ismay and Richard Shearman earned the Welfare a second win before Little and Gareth Pattinson made it 5-2.
Bowling Club have now found their form and made it four in a row as they beat Elbra A 5-2 at home.
Paul Kirkbride suffered a defeat at the hands of Pat Walton to give Elbra a good start but then Anthony Brough and Jason Miller took the next two to give the Bowlers the edge.
Tony Lambert made it all square but in the doubles it was one way traffic and the Bowling Club took all three, with two for the partnership of Brough and Miller and success also for Kirkbride and Mike McCallig.
Butchers B are still searching for their first win even though they made the perfect start as Simon Marr put them 1-0 up against Elbra B.
They couldn’t add to that, however, as Elbra ran out 6-1 winners through Graham Mattinson, Gregg Walling and Ian Frizzle in the singles.
Elbra C welcomed Sun Inn Ballers to Maryport and took control as David McCracken took the first game beating Gary Miller. Paul Devlin then made it 2-0 as he beat Greg Todd, but Willy Armstrong and Johnny Gray both won for the Ballers to square it at 2-2.
In the doubles Elbra took the first via McCracken and Simon Forrest before Armstrong and Gray again levelled the game and set up the decider.
Elbra C went with Devlin and Luke Nicholson while the Ballers chose Miller and Todd, but it was Elbra C who took the points with a 4-3 victory.
Maryport Social and the Sun Inn, Dearham was a one-sided contest as first Ryan Ismay, followed by Andrew Egan, Liam Holm and Stephen Ismay had the game won before the doubles started.
Taylor Manchester and Blake Miller earned the only point for Dearham in their 6-1 defeat.

The final match of the week saw Maryport Rugby B host Sun Inn Cannons and it was the Aspatria visitors who came out on top 5-2.
Tommi Allan, Lewis Fisher and Jordan Falcon gave the Cannons a 3-0 lead before Robbie Pattinson pulled one back. Tyler Beales and Pattinson then made it 3-2 but the Cannons were not to be denied as Falcon and Matty McCartney made it 4-2 before Allan and Fisher secured a 5-2 win, their second victory in a row.
