A man told police there were ‘just drugs’ in a bag in his vehicle when he was stopped by police in Cumbria.
Jamie Blyth, 39, of Falkland Crescent, Aberdeen, was stopped by police near Penrith on February 19 at around 5.20pm.
He told officers he was travelling from Dundee to Wigan to look at a puppy but members of the Roads Policing Unit suspected the journey involved drugs.
They searched the vehicle and Blyth told them there were ‘just drugs’ behind the passenger seat.
Officers found a bag containing two 1kg blocks of heroin and two 0.5kg blocks of heroin.
They also discovered a knife in Blyth’s coat pocket and two bats in the boot.
At Carlisle Crown Court, Blyth was jailed for six years for possession with intent to supply heroin, two counts of possession of an offensive weapon and one count of possession of a bladed article in a public place.
A spokesman from Westmorland and Furness’s Community and Serious Organised Crime team, which investigated the case, said: “This was a great proactive stop by our roads policing officers which has undoubtedly led to harmful drugs being removed from the streets.
“We welcome the prison sentence handed to Blyth – it shows how seriously we, and the courts, take this type of offending.
“Drug dealing is not a victimless crime, and we will continue to target those who distribute them and fuel violence, exploitation an addiction.”
