A pigeon sale in Egremont raised £1,330 for charity on Sunday with the pledge of more throughout the 2026 season.
The Midweek Members Club designated Crohns and Colitis UK as their chosen charity with squeakers sent from some of the country’s top fanciers.
The sale was held in conjunction with the club’s own breeder/buyer sale, which raised £1,765 on the day as well.
Money from food and a raffle took the total take on the day to £3,375.
Organiser Peter Bewsher said: “I honestly can’t believe it and I’d like to thank everyone who supported the sale.
“I hope everyone is satisfied with the quality of the birds they have purchased.”
There were 51 in the breeder/buyer sale and 14 in the charity sale with £200 being paid as top prize for a youngster donated by Stevie Maylett, off new Barcelona pigeons bought from Mark Gilbert.
A second bird of Maylett’s went for £170 from his sprint-based pigeons and a bird sent up by A and M O’Hara also went for £170.
A third youngster donated by Gary Holliday of Lowca went for £170 as well.
Also fetching good money was an Olympic Rico pigeon donated by James Benn and family of Millom, which went for £160.
“We will be continuing to raise funds throughout the season and will donate after the breeder/buyer whatever we can,” said Peter.
