Kendal Town has launched a fundraising campaign to find money to help provide a new clubhouse roof.
With insurers refusing to pay out, the owners of the building need to see local backing before they provide a grant to cover some of the cost.
So the Northern League club has launched Raise the Roof – fundraising efforts during April to show that the community cares about the local football club.
The club – previously known as Netherfield – is 107 years old – so the whole fundraising programme is being labelled as the 107 Challenge and they are looking to raise £10,000.
Chairman Michael O’Neill is 44, and close to 17 stones, but says he is going to run 107km in 31 days to raise money towards the target and is already three days into his programme.
“The response has been terrific so far with a lot of local people getting involved with various ideas on how to raise money for the cause.
“I will be tagging in friends throughout the football world who have worked in the Premier League and others involved in North American football.
“We have recently been able to upgrade our heating but we are now stuck on our next issue, the roof.
“We have set personal goals to help raise some needed funds and really people can do anything they want, as long as it adds up to 107.
“Walking 107 miles, doing 107 keepy uppys, drawing 107 pictures or swimming 107 laps of the pool have all been suggested, but the list is endless.”
