The end of season knockouts in the Aspatria Pool League are split into two –  a top half competition for the leading teams and a bottom half knockout for the lower sides.

In the top half, league champions Sun Inn A played host to Throstle B and they stormed into a 4-0 lead, thanks to David Thompson, Luke Kershaw with an 8ball clearance, Paul Mostyn and Hayden Mostyn.

Throstle B pulled it back to 4-2 by winning the last two singles through Declan Harrison and David Miller, but Thompson and Hayden Mostyn clinched the first double to give the Sun a place in the semi-final.

League runners-up Sun Inn B took on the Miners A, with Ben Scott and Dan Long giving them an early 2-0 lead, before Craig Wilson pulled one back for the Miners.

Gary Miller made it 3-1 to the Sun but the Miners’ Stu Irwin again pulled it back to a one frame deficit.

Ian Frizzle put the Sun in a strong position by winning the last single for a 4-2 lead, and then Scott and Miller proved too strong and won the match for the Sun Inn team.

Miners B played host to Wigton Park BC, and Caden Corrigan got the visitors off to a good start by winning the first frame.

The home side won the next frame thanks to Shane Parrott, while the next two frames were shared.

At that point the Bowling Club took a 4-2 lead thanks to Shaun Glencross and Tommy Barton. However, Miners B then stormed back thanks to Shane Parrott and Peter Mortimer winning their second frames of the night to make the match all square at 4-4.

It was Wigton Park BC that went on to win the match in a tense final frame as Corrigan and Brady Bell pulled them through.

In the bottom half knockout there was an in-house derby clash between Cumberland A & Cumberland B.

In-form Geoff Davies won the first frame for the A team before a top 8ball clearance from Ian Tyrer made it one each.

The next four frames were shared in a tense battle, taking the match to 3-3 going into the doubles.

The B team won the first double for a 4-3 lead thanks to Tyrer and Adam Hocking, but it was the A team that surprised their opponents by winning the last two doubles.

Davies and Willie Graham made their second wins of the night to book the A team’s place in the semi finals.

In the only other match in the bottom half knockout, Sun Inn FC played Letters A, in a match that swung both ways.

In the end it was The Sun FC team that won an even match on the last frame.
