Double champion Silver Dream, with Darren McMaster, won her first race of the season at Oulton and Joanna and Molly Burrow with Thorn Daisy, winning pup at Oulton

Oulton staged its second meeting of the HRA season last night and the three races on the card were contested by 39 hounds.

The Seniors were first to go with a slip of four and Darren and Julie McMaster and Anthony Skelton’s double champions Silver Dream was sent off as the favourite.

Graham and Les Reid’s and Ellie Napier’s Brown Sugar got off to a flying start at the front but after about 20 minutes running the hounds are seen going along the beck edge where Silver Dream had established herself a 20-yard lead.

She was being pursued by George McGimpsey, and Gillian and Millie Telford’s Millie’s Lass, who in turn had a 300-yard lead on Martin, Molly and Teddy Burrow and Sarah Jackson’s Thorn Soul and Brown Sugar.

Once the hounds go into the woods they aren’t seen again until they are three fields away from the finish.

As they appeared out of the trees and over the final road crossing onto the finish Silver Dream still had a comfortable lead and went on well to claim her first win of the season.

She was followed in by Millie’s Lass and Thorn Soul with Brown Sugar taking the final ticket.

There was a slip of 10 for the pups with Martin and Molly Burrow, Ian Freyne, Ger and Jennifer Kenneally’s Thorn Daisy sent off as favourite.

Once underway Thorn Daisy went to the front ahead of Kerry and Anna Lindsay and Janie McAulay’s Zinger.

When they were seen going along the beck Thorn Daisy was leading ahead of the fast improving Zinger and Nicola McMaster and Barbara Telford’s Rodney Ranger.

These three were racing on well and had established a nice lead on the chasers.

Half way down the beck edge Thorn Daisy showed a good turn off foot and had pulled away as they went out of sight into the woods.

When they reappeared Thorn Daisy was clear of the chasing hounds and went on to win by half the length of the finish.

Rodney Ranger was second ahead of Zinger with Joesph Abraham’s Silver Girl taking fourth ahead of her kennelmate Sadie, Kessi and Graham Wilson’s Cinderella.

George McGimpsey, Gillian, Millie and Charlie Telford’s Charlie’s Dream took the final ticket.

Ellie Napier with Money Talks who won the open maidens race at Oulton.

The Open Maidens had the biggest entry of the night with 20 lining up at the slip and Colin Satterthwaite’s Thorn Pop was sent off the favourite.

Graham Reid’s Money Talks and Jenny Horn’s Spring Gardener both got off to a good start but as they showed on the beck edge Money Talks had raced into a 50-yard lead over Thorn Pop and Malcolm Holmes’ Senorita.

There was then a small gap to Martin and Molly Burrow, Ian Freyne, Ger and Jennifer Kenneally’s Thorn Bee and Anna and Kerry Lindsay and Emmie McAulay’s Inspect.

Once they appeared out of the wood Money Talks’ lead over Thorn Pop had reduced and as they crossed the final road and onto the finish they had a good race to the line.

In the end Money Talks claimed the win by a length from the consistent Thorn Pop with the runner-up’s kennel mate Thorn Bee in third.

Senorita finished in fourth ahead of fast finishing Inspect and Brian and Joy Lister’s Minnie Million.

Hound Racing resumes tomorrow, Saturday, April 11 at Low Place for a four-grade meeting (Seniors, Pups, Open Maiden and All-in). Seniors slip at 1pm.
