Harvey Macadam was left red-faced when his late own goal cost Carlisle United victory last week against his former team Morecambe.
But Macadam was all smiles this time as he scored twice to help Carlisle beat Sutton 3-0 at Brunton Park.
The win ended a sequence of two successive draws but extended their unbeaten run in the National League to six matches and tightened their grip on the vital third place finish.
With two games left to play they lead Boreham Wood by five points and next week travel to bottom side Truro.
The Cumbrians took the lead after 10 minutes when Macadam was left with a shooting opportunity and he made no mistake, drilling the ball into the bottom corner.
He added his second midway through the first half when his header on the end of a free kick by Callum Whelan beat Jack Sims, the stranded Sutton keeper.
There were still four minutes remaining in the first half when Ryan Galvin scored a third and in a low-key second half they comfortably saw it through to collect the points and send Sutton to a fourth successive defeat.
