Whitehaven add point to their tally

It’s been a long time coming but Whitehaven added another point to their tally at the foot of the West Lancashire League’s Premier Division.

Their 2-2 draw at home to Blackpool Wren Rovers was a significant one too as the visitors are in the top four and had won seven of their 11 away games before Saturday.

What made the result even more commendable was that Rovers had gone 2-0 ahead in the first 16 minutes with a brace of goals from  Charlie King.

Joe Carney pulled one back for Whitehaven before half-time and after a spirited second-half effort they drew level deep in added time with a goal from Liam White.

You can hear what manager Brian Dawson thought of the performance below:

Cleator Moor Celtic were disappointed to lose 4-1 at home to Burscough Richmond as they had dominated possession for about 70% of the game.

It was the increasing problem of not being able to make full use of opportunities in the final third which cost them.

They had opportunities before, against the run of play, Celtic conceded an own goal while desperately trying to defend a ball into the box and they still trailed 1-0 ayt the break.

Burscough added a second through Alfie Westhead two minutes into the second half before Zac Benson-Lester scored a well-worked goal for Celtic. The same player went close a few minutes later but shot into the side netting.

It rather gave a false impression on the game when Jordan Lorde scored twice for the visitors in the 75th and 88th minutes.

Millom’s run of good results ended at CMB where they lost 3-1 after top scorer Ben Macdonald had given them a 15th minute lead.

Carl Grimshaw (39) and Oliver Turner (44) turned the game round for CMB and Grimshaw’s second goal on 59 minutes gave them the edge which they retained until the final whistle.

Milnthorpe Corinthians won the Westmorland County Cup on Friday night at Parkside Road, Kendal when they beat Appleby 4-2.

It was the Zach Clarke show as he scored all four goals in the 9th, 50th, 63rd and 82nd minutes.
