A ceremonial sod-breaking event has taken place for 114 new homes on the outskirts of Carlisle.
The development, Waverley Gardens, will be built on Burgh Road includes 68 social rent homes and 46 available for shared ownership.
The social homes are specifically for local people and come with local occupancy provisions.
The estate is being created by Home Group.
The launch of the development, part funded by Homes England, was attended by Carlisle MP Julie Minns and ward councillor for Belle Vue, Abdul Harid.
Lisa Russell, regional director for the North West at Home Group, said: “We are delighted to be delivering more much needed homes around Carlisle – especially the social homes, which are solely for local people.
“We have over 10,000 homes across Cumberland and Westmorland and Furness and we have plans to deliver more homes over the next few years, cementing our presence in these areas, where we’ve been since 1936.”
Atkinson Building Contractors is building the homes, which are expected to be fully completed by 2029, with people starting to move in by summer 2027.
