The best two teams in the National League have finished first and second but Carlisle United are still hopeful of forcing their way into the promotion picture.
A 1-0 win at Truro City confirmed the Blues will end up in third place and booked a home semi-final place in the end-of-season shootouts.
Fittingly it was top scorer Regan Linney who provided the only goal of a tense game in Cornwall, with a fine effort in the 65th minute.
It looked as though Carlisle had grabbed the lead after 15 minutes but home keeper Aidan Stone got to Georgie Kelly’s effort while David Ajiboye headed just wide.
Into the second-half Jack Stretton had Truro’s best chance but fired over the top before Linney grabbed the match winner.
United needed Ryan Galvin to make a block on the line to prevent Harry Charsley from grabbing an equaliser and there was drama at both ends in the closing stages.
Ajiboye missed a great chance to double the Carlisle lead while United were grateful to goalkeeper Gabriel Breeze when he made a brilliant save to deny Ben Starkie in added time at the end.
