A golden pie hunt will start next week in Carlisle.
Cumbria’s own guerrilla art collective Cumberland Objects – whose real identities remain unknown – said the hunt will begin on Monday, May 4.
The first clue will be revealed at 10am.
It is the fifth trail of its kind in Cumbria, after the group set up trails of custard creams and bourbons in the city as well as signs, pies and fried eggs in Whitehaven, Egremont, Cleator Moor and Cockermouth last year.
It told Cumbria Crack: “Due to the phenomenal success of the biscuits, the pies of Whitehaven and of course the eponymous fried eggs of Egremont, Cockermouth and Dalston, we have decided to celebrate with a golden pie hunt.
“At least we would celebrate if we existed, which we don’t. We are emphatic about that. There is no such thing as a Cumberland Objects, everyone knows, eh?
“The pie hunt could take anything from two hours to two days to two weeks, really depends on aptitude. It will require walking. Cars are not allowed.
“The pie is not underground (so no spades etc).”
Today, Cumberland Objects shared this video with us:
The group said that Cumberland Objects was a project to celebrate the obscure and uncelebrated anecdotal heritage of Cumbria.
Elizabeth Rainbow was the wife of Edward Rainbow who was the Bishop of Carlisle from 1608 until 1684.
People taking part in the pie hunt are asked to share their photos and videos on social media with #thehuntforthegoldenpie
