The family of a teenager who died after getting into difficulty in a Lake District tarn have paid tribute to him.
Absi Ahmed, 17, died after the incident at High Dam Tarn, near Windermere, on April 17.
His family said: “Absi was a bright, kind, funny young man with his whole future ahead of him.
“He was a loyal friend, a loving son, and someone who brought warmth and laughter wherever he went. His loss has shaken our entire community.”
The family also highlighted the devastating consequences of entering open water.
If you get into difficulty in water
Float to Live:
- Tilt your head back, submerging your ears
- Relax and control your breathing
- Move your hands and legs to help you stay afloat
- Your legs may sink – that’s okay, everyone floats differently
- Practise floating at a supervised location like a swimming pool
Almost £16,000 has been collected in memory of Absi, of Poulton-le-Fylde, Lancashire, after a fundraiser was started by friend Theo Earnshaw.
