A very special football match is to be played at Penrith’s Frenchfield on Sunday May 31.
It’s being billed as a Legends match between Carlisle United and a combination of former Workington and Penrith players.
The game has been organised to mark what would have been the 50th birthday of Tony Hopper, the popular midfielder of Carlisle United and Workington who died in October 2018 after being diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease.
All proceeds from the game are to go to the MND Association and Eden Valley Hospice.
Special kits have been made for the game with Hopper 8 on the back, and done in blue and red halved colours.

Among those turning out for the Workington/Penrith side are Gari Rowntree, Dave Hewson, Adam Collin, Matt Henney, Graham Goulding, Steven Archibald, Lee Hoolickin, Willie Paul and Scott Allison.
Carlisle favourites turning out for their team are Tony Caig, Dean Walling, Paul Proudlock, Chris Lumsdon, Luke Joyce, Mike Jones, Mark Ellis and Danny Graham.

Former United boss Mich Wadsworth will manage the Carlisle side with Kenny Brown, a former assistant manager at Workington, looking after the Reds/Penrith combination.
Admission will be £5 with Under-16s free. Raffle tickets are being sold by Cumbrian Properties.
