Get ready to step into something new – Carlisle is about to host its very first Active Travel Walking Festival, and everyone’s invited!

From May 4 to May 8, the city will come alive with the Walk This Way Festival, a five-day celebration of walking in all its wonderful forms.

Whether you’re a brisk stepper or a casual stroller, are looking to improve your health and wellbeing or just in it for the friendly chat, there’s a walk for you.

Organised by Active Cumbria’s Travel Actively Carlisle team, the festival aligns with Living Streets National Walking month which takes place throughout May, promoting walking as a simple, accessible way to improve physical and mental health.

Walk This Way Festival is all about community, movement, and fun.

Expect a packed programme of themed walks happening across Carlisle, with local groups and organisations joining forces to bring this exciting event to life.

From family-friendly rambles, scavenger hunt, nature walks, social strolls with refreshments and even the chance to try walking football there’s something for everyone – no matter your pace or experience.

So, dust off those trainers, grab your family and friends, and join your neighbours for a celebration of fresh air, new paths, and shared steps. It’s time to get out, get moving, and Walk This Way!

All walks are free and residents are invited to join many of the walks.
