Changes to Whitehaven side for Dewsbury trip

Whitehaven coach James Newton has made three changes to his side for the trip to Dewsbury on Sunday.

His three loan signings come into the squad for the first time after agreeing short team deals this week.

Alfie Sinclair (St Helens), Alfie Briggs and Rowan Stephenson come into the 21 with Lewis Brown, Xendon Callander and Oliver Polec dropping out.

Newton has been working hard over the last few weeks to try and add more bodies to his squad and is pleased that he’s managed to land these three young, promising recruits.

“We are going to try a couple of things just a little bit different this week and I’m looking for a more resolute defensive effort.

“It’s been clear that we are inconsistent over a full game and I’m looking for 80 minutes where we are going to be concentrated and effective throughout,” he said.

Paul March has named his 21 man Dewsbury squad and has announced that Jacob Algar and Monty Lumb, are joining the team for the rest of the season on loan from the Huddersfield Giants. However Algar is not included in Sunday’s squad.

  • Whitehaven: Bickerdike, Blinkhorn, Brennan, Briggs, Burns, Stephenson, Eccleston, Holgate, Holliday, Kellet, B. Pearce, J Pearce, Sinclair, Shackley, Smith, Todd, Walker, Walker-Taylor, Weatherill.
  • Dewsbury: C McShane, Delaney, Senior, Copland, Coates, Hoolem, Nelmes, J. McShane, Everett, Summers, Tomlinson, Bateman, Collinson, Roberts, Bentley, Rayner, Graham, O’Connor, Addy, Lumb, Lingard.
