Today’s May Day races at Gamelsby should attract a good entry for the five grades on offer, starting with the seniors at 1pm.
Sponsors for the opener are Long and Small’s Garage at Flimby and there will be strong support for reigning champion and current table leader Silver Dream, although she missed the look round the course last Tuesday.
Having won round the course last year and is in good form she should be the hot favourite to win although Countess Ava won the look around last week and could provide some stiff competition.
Also likely to figure will be Mel, who started the season well and was second to Countess Ava last week.
The winner will be presented with the Warnell Challenger Trophy.
The Senior Maidens will slip at 1.45pm and are sponsored by G.A Wilson and a leading fancy could be Lucky Moon who finished fourth in the Seniors last week.
Another changing grade is Money Talks who finished sixth in the seniors and could be in the frame here.
The Pups will slip at 3pm and is sponsored by Sadie’s Tails on Trails and is probably the most open race of the day given that only two finished last week.
Last week’s winner will be lining up and could repeat his win but competition will be stiffer after so many went wrong last Tuesday. Main dangers come be Acacia and Azalia along with two fast finishing bitches Cinderella and Thorn Daisy.
The Puppy Maidens will slip at 3.30pm and is sponsored by JD Autos. This one is another difficult race for the punters but Croft Rose is likely to be heading the betting after finishing second in the Pups last week.
Competition could come from consistent Fable who always shows a good turn of foot on the finish.
The Open Restricted will slip at 4pm and is usually the biggest entry on the day and is sponsored by the Cockermouth and Workington Area.
Baroness Ava who has just won at the Whitehaven Classic and won the All-In at the look around last week will be the hot favourite and will have some stiff competition from her two littermates Malfunction and Blue Striker.
The Veterans provide the final race of the day and will slip at 4.30pm, sponsored by The Gincase.
Eagle Rock, who is in top form at the moment, will be expected to do well along with the consistent hound Thorn Pop.
Their danger could come from Black Eyed Shadow who has also been running well as off lately.
