Barrow’s CEO Iain Wood has left the club with immediate effect.
The Bluebirds announced his departure 48 hours after they had lost their Football League place at the end of a dismal season.
Wood joined the club in May 2022 as sporting director, and later went on to become CEO in October 2024.
His first role meant he was responsible for all on-field activities in collaboration with the first team manager; including player development, retention and recruitment, provision of training facilities, medical and support team liaison and the football analysis team.
His first major decision at the club was appointing Pete Wild as manager and in his first few months at the club, Wood oversaw 14 player departures and 13 player arrivals, as himself and the new manager looked to build a squad capable of pushing up the League Two table.
One of their first additions was Tranmere Rovers midfielder Sam Foley who had been put in charge of the team for the last few weeks of this season.
It was through the efforts of Wood that Barrow formed a B team and he oversaw Barrow’s move to a new training ground at Moston in Manchester.
Ahead of the 2024-25 season and following the departure of Wild the new head coach Stephen Clemence was Wood’s choice to take over.
In October 2024, Iain Wood was named CEO with club chairman Paul Hornby describing the move as a “natural progression for both Iain and the football club”.
But after Clemence the Bluebirds have got through a trio of managers this season in Andy Whing, Paul Gallagher and Dino Maamria.
They also had Neil McDonald for a short while after Whing’s departure while Foley was put in charge after Maamria’s sacking.
It was these constant managerial changes which brought the main criticism from the fans, many of whom voiced their disapproval after the final game with Newport which they lost 2-1.
The club thanked wood for his contribution and wished him well for the future.
