Cumbria Men’s League had the field to themselves at the weekend and the County Cup dominated the programme with some close, hard-fought games.
Top of the bill were Egremont A who became the first team to lower the colours of Wath Brow A, winning 14-12 at Gillfoot.
It was just 4-0 to the Rangers second string at half-time and quickly became 8-0 on the restart. The Hornets did pull it back to 8-6 before Egremont scored a decisive third try and converted it.
Wath Brow scored the last try of the game but could not save their unbeaten record in the closing stages.
Cian Sharpe, Dillon Scott and Dylan Norris scored tries for Egremont with Kris Tyson landing the all-important conversion.
Isaac Scott and Jamie Sharp scored the Wath Brow tries, both converted by Jamie Lee Towers.
There were two other games which were decided by just two-point and another with just four points the difference, which are the type of results which can only benefit and sustain interest in the League.
Kells A won 24-22 at Askam from the last play of the game which had been hard-fought and even throughout.
The five Kells tries came from Ashton Sice (2), Lee Rutherford, Finn Miller and Ellis McKee with two conversions by Bobby Dickinson.
The Askam tries came from Roman Smedley (2), Tom Wilkinson, Josh Bayliss with three conversions from Connor Saunders.

Matthew Williams (2) and Lincoln Sice scored the Hensingham tries with one conversion from Rylan Templeton.
Glasson Rangers have had a stop-start beginning to the season and were involved in their best game so far, going down 30-26 at home to Roose Pioneers.
It was a ding dong battle between two physical sides with Glasson’s tries coming from Shane Williams (2), Scott Faulkner, Connor Wilson and man of the match Brad Oglanby. Luke Johnson kicked three goals.
Chris Broadley, a member of the Glasson coaching staff, said: “We were really pleased with the reaction we got from the group. It was a gutsy 80-minute performance when a couple of costly errors allowed Roose to turn them into points.
“It was great to see us still battling for the victory to the last minute.”
The Roose tries were scored by Glenn Phillips (2), Jack Wilkinson, Josh Tranter, Ethan Bowness and Oliver Morgan, Toby Bowness (2) and Tranter kicked the goals.
The remaining game was a bit clearer cut as Cockermouth Titans beat Flimby Vikings 36-6.
The Cockermouth performance was particularly rewarding for the Cockermouth coaches as it came from a youing team who showed plenty of team-work and determination across the park.
The tries were scored by Jordan Herve (3), man of the ,match Max Bateson (2), Jude Starkie (2) and Ryan Scott who kicked three goals.
Dan Weir scored the Flimby try and also added the conversion.
