Penrith came together in vibrant celebration of May Day 2026, as streets filled with locals and visitors eager to enjoy a day of colour, creativity and community spirit, writes Chris Jones.
A standout moment was the Green Man Parade, created by John Parkinson of Upfront Arts, and supported by local community groups and schools.
The parade brought a lively carnival atmosphere to the town, with powerful rhythmic drumming from Bjamba and the striking presence of Eden Dance captivating the crowds.
Vintage vehicles added a nostalgic charm, while a diverse range of performers entertained along the route.
Penrith Town Band led the procession, proudly preceding the Four Guardians giant puppets and a host of imaginative costumed figures with pupils from Greystoke School.
Towering above them all was the enormous Green Man, a symbolic centrepiece that drew admiration and applause, making the parade a memorable highlight of the day’s celebrations.
