A Lake District naturist retreat will help people reconnect.

Woodlandia will be held at Fell Foot Wood, near Fell Foot, Windermere, from June 5 to June 8.

Organised by British Naturism, the festival is an evolution of its previous events in the Lake District, which focused more on walking and hiking.

Woodlandia is billed as a back to basics woodland experience, with opportunities to relax, meditate and take some time to connect with the earth, mind, body and soul.

Activities will include yoga, plus a short naturist fell walk and skinny dip in a tarn, plus it will also feature live music and a bar.

Up to 160 people are expected to attend and a spokesman for British Naturism said it would be a perfect opportunity for anyone wishing to try naturism for the first time.

He said: “It’s about re-engaging with the world. We’re all connected to our phones and naturism is a chance to reconnect with the real world.

“It really does change the way you feel about yourself and give you more self-confidence.

“It’s all about community. Taking your clothes off strips away the masks we all wear and allows you to connect with people.”

The spokesman added that they had found the Cumbrian community very welcoming when British Naturism had held previous events in the Lake District and they were excited about Woodlandia.

British Naturism has around 9,000 members but a poll a couple of years ago revealed that around 6.75 million people considered themselves as naturists across the UK.

The spokesman said that first timers would be more than welcome. He added: “There is always that sense of nervousness, of course, but usually within five minutes, it seems like being dressed makes you the odd one out.

“There is a sense of comedy around people not being dressed, but you don’t have to come to the festival to try it in public. If you’re interested, get up out of bed and make yourself a coffee before you put any clothes on. You’ll be amazed at what it feels like and you don’t have to be embarrassed in front of the cat.”
