
One of the main news items from Borough Park at the end of the season was that centre-forward Matty Tymon announced his retirement.
He had returned to the club to help the Reds survival fight and played an important part in them securing their NPL Premier Division place for next season.
Tymon is 36 now and although North East-based has lived locally and worked at Sellafield for most of the last 10 years.
He’s now got a new job outside Cumbria and just felt it was the right time to call it a day.
He had played seniors football last year for Thornhill Bulls, and is going to miss that as well as the dressing room at Borough Park.
Tymon, who started his career as a youth team player at Hartlepool, before signing his first professional contract has played for a number of years – in the Northern League and NPL – but says he has never experienced such emotions as greeted Reds win at Warrington Town.
He also remembers fondly his two years spent with Whitehaven Amateurs in Division Two of the Northern League.
