A Carlisle trio will lead the cast of a new film to be shot in the Lake District from next month.
Cumbrian writer-director Stuart Armstrong has announced the cast for his upcoming project Leavers’ Day, following the breakout success of his short film Meat Raffle last year.
Leavers’ Day is an LGBTQ+ coming-of-age short film set in the Lake District in 2003.
The cast is led by Frank Bertoletti, William Teasdale and Eireann Devlin, who all hail from Carlisle, supported by Cumbrians David Kirkbride, Sunny Woodend and Reubyna Glanville.
It is being produced by Kendal-based Alexander Kasper Jessett and London-based Daisy Harrison-Constantinides, who shadowed Adolescence director Philip Barantini on the Lake District-shot music video for Sam Fender’s Little Bit Closer, starring Owen Cooper.
Stuart said: “This is a real step up for me. After the response to Meat Raffle, I want to go bigger with the scope of the story we’re telling and I’m so excited to work with this incredible cast of Cumbrian talent.”
Leavers’ Day follows Alex and his childhood sweetheart Dom as they reunite on the last day of sixth form and set out on a journey across the Lake District in search of a rumoured stash of hidden contraband.
What begins as a reckless treasure hunt unfolds into a heartfelt exploration of growing up, unresolved tension and the complexities of young queer relationships.
