It’s been an up and down week so far for Workington Reds fans – with a popular player retiring and another fan favourite re-signing.
That was quickly followed by confirmation that Brad Carroll, who finished the season on loan from Bury, had re-signed for the Reds in preparation for the 2026/27 season.
Carroll was a popular member of the Reds engine room under previous managers Danny Grainger and Chris Willcock so was a shrewd loan recruit at Christmas by manager Billy Barr.
The Barrow-born Carroll played for his home town club as well as Kendal and Clitheroe before joining Reds and subsequently moved to Lancaster City and then to Bury.
He suffered a serious knee injury right at the start of the 2024/25 season which limited his appearances for the Shakers and had a spell on loan at Clitheroe at the start of the season just ended.
Carroll, 29, had joined Reds on an extended loan until the end of the season and after his release by Bury was quickly snapped up again by Barr.
His passion for the game and the club from a central midfield role have made him a big favourite of the Borough Park faithful.
He chats to Cumbria Crack’s John Walsh below:
