Workington Reds manager Billy Barr has added his appreciation for the efforts of Dav Symington for the Borough Park club over the last 10 years.
Although the 32-year-old skipper played very little for him since he took over the reins in November, he knows how much he has achieved for the Reds.
Symnigton announced his retirement this week.
Barr told Cumbria Crack: “It was a devastating day for Dav and his family, and ultimately our football club, when he announced his retirement.
“Dav has had a frustrating season which has been hampered by suspension and injury. It’s also been a really frustrating time for Dav since we joined the football club.
“He was initially suspended after his sending off against Gainsborough Trinity, and when he returned for the Warrington Town home game he scored just before coming off.
“Away at Leek Town he pulled up in the warm up, we have only seen him come on from the bench for a few appearances since then.
“A true great of the modern era at Workington Reds, his absence will be felt by all but ultimately somebody will now have an opportunity to replicate all that Dav has done.
“And if anybody can get anywhere near his stats they will also be classed as a Workington legend.
On behalf of the whole football club we wish Dav and his family nothing but happiness in the next chapter of their lives.”
Symington has spoken to Cumbria Crack’s John Walsh about his decision to retire, reflected on his career and revealed he is staying involved in football with his own coaching group.
