Two games are scheduled tonight in the Cumbria Men’s League’s Cup competition.
Kells A entertain Cockermouth Titans while there’s a town derby involving Maryport A and Glasson Rangers.
It should be a tight affair at Kells where the home A team got their season up and running last week with a big win over Flimby Vikings.
The Titans had a good encounter with Askam before going under 18-12 so will be looking to bounce back.
In the derby clash Maryport A coach Scott Akehurst has 35 players available but although the first team have no fixture the club and coaching staff are staying loyal to the youngsters and regular A team players who have served them well so far this season.
The team will be very similar to the one which played against Glasson a few weeks ago with 11 of last season’s Under-16s team being under consideration.
Seventeen-year-old forward Clayton McCormick, who made his first team debut at Hindpool last week, is in the squad although veteran Darren Pape won’t be rushed as he goes on holiday on Saturday morning.
Another youngster Harry Blamire, who didn’t play for the Under-16s last season, but has settled well into the Open Age squad is also away.
Glasson will be mainly unchanged from last week’s good effort against Aspatria, although Greg Rowley and Brad Oglanby both miss out.
The squad is boosted, however, by the return of Owen Beattie and Peter Fearon.
There’s a couple of late fitness tests for a couple of players which will hopefully leave them with 18 to pick from – and 10 others unavailable on the night.
Chris Broadley, a member of the Glasson coaching team, said: “Overall we are going in the right direction but Maryport A have had some good results of late, including beating us four weeks ago.
“That hurt us massively and I hope as a group we can start to string performances together for 80 minutes rather than having just 50/60 minute of being really good and then switching off.”
There’s a tasty game in prospect at Beacon Hill where Aspatria Hornets entertain Egremont A tomorrow.
For Aspatria Ellis Holliday returns at full-back having been away with the England Lions Under-19s last week.
Frazer Williamson switches to the halves with versatile Scott Donald returning to the pack.
Egremont gave Aspatria a tough game at Bower Park in the League and it’s expected to be similar for this Cup clash.
For their part Egremont will welcome back Jordan Baird, Sam Williams and Kaiden Block.
The other Saturday game is a clash of the A teams with Millom hosting Hensingham.
