The A686 is closed in both directions following a serious collision.
It is being reported that the road is closed between Tortree Gardens in Melmerby and Park Lane in Alston.
It was reported at around 3.20pm.
It is understood the Great North Air Ambulance is among the emergency services attending.
Traffic is coping well.
