Billy Barr appreciates what an important signing Brad Carroll was for his Workington squad as he builds for next season.
He even admitted that talks had started tentatively in the bar at Borough Park after the last game of the season ahead of the club’s presentation night.
He said: “It has taken quite a bit of negotiating over the past three weeks but I’m delighted that we eventually agreed and Brad has now committed to next season.
“Brad was a great addition to the squad when he signed in December and was an easy option to pick as captain when Riggy was injured given the impact he had on the younger players in his first few months.”
Steven Rigg is another important player at Borough Park who had a season dominated by concerns over a knee injury, although he heroically played on for much of the time.
A recent club statement said that following a flare-up of the knee injury that affected him towards the end of last season, the popular forward is currently taking some additional time to assess his situation and seek further medical advice before making any decisions regarding his future.
As things stand, there are no immediate plans for a return to playing, but no final decision has been made at this stage.
Manager Barr said: “Riggy just needs time to see what happens with his knee.”
Meanwhile Barr confirmed that he will be talking to midfielder Isaac Whitehall about a deal for next season when he returns from holiday.
