Over 50 fines have been issued over the bank holiday weekend as the Lake District fills with visitors.
South Lakes Police said over 50 fines were handed out in the South Lakes area and 20 fines were issued to vehicles causing unnecessary obstruction in Kirkby Lonsdale.
Officers said they had seen continued inconsiderate and dangerous parking when car parks have been at capacity.
South Lakes Police added while Westmorland & Furness Council was responsible for dealing with on-street and off-street parking infringements, the police did have powers to deal with vehicles blocking roads unnecessarily.
In Kirkby Lonsdale officers made sure the Devil’s Bridge parking area remained accessible to visitors.
The force said: “It cannot be acceptable that people with prams and pushchairs have to step onto the A65 because someone has parked on the pavement.
“Two of the worst parked vehicles were left obstructing the view from the A683 onto the A65 increasing danger to other road users on day where we saw very heavy traffic levels.
“The vehicles were physically removed and the owners now liable for the recovery costs.
“On peak days car parks are almost certain to be at capacity. If you cant find a space please do not use pavements and footpaths as an alternative or park in such a way that you cause a danger to others
The bank holiday weekend has seen significant volumes of visitors to both the Lakes and Kirkby Lonsdale.
The Council not Police are responsible for on and off street parking infringements but the Police do retain powers to deal with vehicles that are causing an Unnecessary Obstruction of the Highway or are in a dangerous position.
