A woman who was crossing the road with her grandchild in a West Cumbrian town has died following a collision with a motorbike.

Gillian Livingstone, 76, of Cleator Moor, died after she was struck by a motorbike while crossing Ennerdale Road with her grandchild on Tuesday at around 4.25pm.

The child suffered a serious head injury and remains in hospital in a stable condition.

Police have arrested three men – all from West Cumbria and in their 20s – on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Cumbria police is encouraging anyone who saw the incident to come forward.

Officers are particularly keen to hear from anyone who saw the motorbike – believed to be in convoy with two quad bikes – leading up to the collision.

Officers would also request that people in the area with dashcam, CCTV or doorbell footage review that footage and contact police if they have captured anything which would aid the investigation.

Anyone with information relating to this incident can report online at www.cumbria.police.uk/reportit quoting incident number 217 of 26 May or call 101.

Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

  • Kieran Yorke, 22, of Woodend, Egremont, will appear at Workington Magistrates’ Court today, Thursday May 28, charged with causing death by dangerous driving. Two other men, aged 22 and 23, have been bailed pending further enquiries.
