Workington Reds have retired their annual Budget Booster fundraiser.
In recent seasons it has raised £20,000 plus for the cause with the fans giving generously.
But the club has decided that it’s time to move on and replace it with what they are calling Fuel the Journey.
The club said: “We’re retiring the Budget Booster and replacing it with something more focused.
“A dedicated fund where every penny goes directly towards bringing the right players to Workington AFC.
“We’re miles from the talent pool. That’s the reality. Fuel the Journey is how we make sure that distance never holds us back.
“From £10 a month you’re in, monthly cash prize draw included. Higher tiers unlock signing news, your name on the warm-up tops, an end-of-season lunch with the board and manager, and more.”
The new fundraiser has also got off to a strong start.
The Reds Independent Supporters Club has given a donation of £5,750 to kick off Fuel the Journey.
That amount wouldn’t have been possible without the efforts of Carl Stephenson who runs the RISC’s weekly score-cast competition and made up £3,000 of the donation.
Manager Billy Barr has a “shopping list” of players that he would like to bring to the club and progress made by the Fuel the Journey project is hoped to allow him to tick off most of them as secure.
