
Cockermouth’s Croft Bowling Club held its second Pub and Club Bowls competition and raised over £300 for charity.
16 pubs and clubs entered with different businesses and organisations from across the town taking part.
They included Jennings Brewery, The Swan Inn, Cockermouth WI and Cartmell Shepherd solicitors.
Each team consisted of three players who had never played bowls before and the club gave them some practice sessions during May to show them the ropes and explain the art of bowls.
On the day the competition was fierce and fantastic bowling.
The winners were:
- 1st Black Bull C
- 2nd TBC, the Black Bull B team
- 3rd Backroom Boys from The Swan Inn)
- 4th Stitched Up! from Cockermouth WI
Shot of the day was awarded to Claire Ackerley from Cartmell Shepherd and a raffle in aid of The Wooden Spoon Rugby Charity raised £320
The event was set up to introduce people to the game of bowls and have some fun
In the semi -final the average age of TBC was 24 and the WI team averaged nearly 80 years of age.
Croft Bowling Club said: “Everybody had a great day even, the sun came out which was fantastic and the club is hoping to recruit some new members.”
