Belle Vue have swooped to sign 2017 world champion Jason Doyle as they return to a full team following the recent injuries to Dan Bewley.
West Cumbrian star Bewley suffered a bad crash in Denmark two weeks ago and suffered a broken leg and a compressed disc in his back.
He has published videos of him up and walking with the aid of crutches, but is clearly going to miss a chunk of the season.
Doyle has been absent from UK racing so far this season after helping Ipswich to the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership title last year, bringing to an end a four-year stint at Foxhall.
He will make his Aces debut in their home clash with Leicester on Monday, having already enjoyed plenty of individual success in Manchester as a four-time winner of the Peter Craven Memorial Trophy.
Belle Vue CEO Mark Lemon said: “I’ve had a long conversation with Dan, who quite naturally wants to come back, and all I’ve said to him is he will know when his body is ready, and at the moment none of us can put a timeframe on that.
“I’d like to welcome Jason to the club, and I’m delighted that we’re able to bring in a replacement of his calibre. His average is actually a little lower than it has been in the past, but that really isn’t important to me because we know what he can do on the British tracks.
“When your team is built top-heavy in the top two as we are, it’s very difficult to continue with guests or rider replacement for any length of time and to have an expectation that the other guys are going to be able to fill Dan’s shoes.
“I’m looking forward to working with Jason again, as I have done at international level, and I’m sure we can get him firing on all cylinders.”
