ACT Youth Theatre is preparing for its most ambitious production in over 12 years.
The Addams Family – The Musical will be performed by two separate casts at two separate venues next month.
The youth theatre has nurtured hundreds of young performers over the years and it said this production gave every young performer their moment in the spotlight — a philosophy that sits at the heart of what it is all about.
The show will be performed at Ullswater Community College in Penrith on Sunday July 5 and Carlisle College, Carlisle on Saturday July 11.
The cast ranges in age from 11 to 18, and brings together students from across Cumbria.
Earlier this year, the junior company performed their own debut show — Johnny and the Bomb, a Terry Pratchett musical — to great acclaim.
Pauley Heron, director and principal of ACT Youth Theatre, said: ““The Addams Family has been a favourite of mine since I saw it on stage in 2022 — I knew from that moment I wanted to bring it to our students.
“It is a fantastic first senior musical: it really pushes performers in their singing, dancing and acting, but the characters are so universally loved that audiences are drawn straight into the world.
“It is a show for the whole family, and I cannot wait for Cumbria to see what this incredible group of young people have created.”
With music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa, The Addams Family — The Musical is a darkly delightful comedy that audiences of all ages will adore.
Wednesday Addams — the ultimate princess of darkness — has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, ordinary young man.
The only problem? His perfectly normal family is coming to dinner. Now Gomez Addams must do something he has never done before: keep a secret from his beloved Morticia.
