It was a busy Saturday for hound racing enthusiasts with two meetings taking place.

At the Roman Wall there were 44 hounds and eight of them contested the opening senior race.

Neil and Gillian Brown and Joel and Derrick Bulman’s Hey Mac got away well as usual with Denise and Jenny Bland’s Huntsman’s Time for company.

The hounds came back into view going past the field after roughly 10 minutes of racing where Hey Mac was still in contention with George McGimpsey, Gillian and Millie Telford’s Millie’s Lass joining the leading hounds along with Denise and Jenny Bland and Ella and Kyle Gallacher’s Jenny’s Chance.

Jenny’s Chance was fourth while early leader Huntsman’s Time was next ahead of Gillian Bulman Brown and Mickey O’Brien’s Peggy Sue.

The Senior Maidens were next to go with a line-up of seven and George Burgon and Carole Tunstall’s Mr Mally was leading them away out of the first gate and out of sight.

Malcolm Holmes’ Senor was there as well and back into view going past the field the two were still showing the way but had been joined by Anna and Kerry Lindsay and Janie McAulay’s Inspect.

Onto the long haul to the line and through the final wall gap into the field three had a small lead – Senor and Mr Mally but now with Joy, Brian and Cathy Lister’s Minnie Million.

As they raced to the line Mr Mally just managed to hold onto the win from fast-finishing Minnie Million and then Senor.

Colin Satterthwaite’s Thorn Heart finished in fourth ahead of Joy, Brian and Cathy Lister’s Lady Million and Inspect.

The Pups were the first of the shorter races with seven involved and it was Anna and Kerry Lindsay and Janie McAulay’s Zinger and Nicola McMaster and Barbara Telford’s Rodney Ranger and Tony, Marlene, Connor and Carter Irving and Gary Woodend’s Bewley who were setting the early pace.
