A report of underage drinking taking place at a premises in Workington has prompted police action.
Cumbria police said officers recently attended a report of a large number of youths consuming alcohol at a licensed premises in the town.
It has since been found that the venue was operating in breach of its licensing condition, including in relation to supervision and control of alcohol sales to young people.
The premises has not been named.
An Allerdale Police spokesman said: “We understand the concerns this type of incident raises within our community. Ensuring the safety of young people and responsible management of licensed premises is a priority for us.
“As a result, we will now be working closely with the local authority licensing team to take this matter forward to a formal licensing review.”
The venue will now be subject to scrutiny regarding its compliance with licensing laws.
A review may result in additional conditions, suspension, or revocation of the licence.
The spokesman added: “We will continue to take robust action where businesses fail to uphold their legal responsibilities.
“We would also like to remind parents and guardians of the risks associated with underage drinking, and encourage open conversations with young people about staying safe.
“If you have concerns about underage drinking or licensing issues in your area, please report them to us or your local council.”
