Young people have been caught on CCTV climbing the roofs of two schools in Carlisle.
Carlisle Neighbourhood Policing Team met with headteachers at Inglewood Junior and Infants School on Tuesday June 16, to discuss the issue.
Officers said young people had been entering the schools after hours and climbing on the roofs – putting themselves in significant danger.
They added that the schools are old buildings and that the roofs are not designed to support the weight of people running or cycling on them.
Damage has also been caused to equipment for toddlers, which will cost the school a significant amount of money to rectify.
But they added that the school has caught the offenders on CCTV and that they will be visited soon.
A police spokesman said: “If you are aware of your children being involved in damaging local schools or causing general anti social behaviour you need to have a word with them as you may be the one footing the bill.
“We do not wish to have any young person fall through a roof and become injured. Please have some consideration for others.”
Officers also discussed road traffic offence issues at the school.
School Road, which provides access to the infants school, is subject to a sign posted road regulation order, which restricts who can use the road at certain times of day.
The regulation order was put in place to protect children coming to and from school.
The school staff are not responsible for enforcing it and officers said staff members have recently been subjected to abuse.
A police spokesman added: “This will not be tolerated. The car park at the school is for staff parking only this is not a drop off point, unless by prior arrangement with the school.”
