The two top sides in the Cumbria League’s Premier Division go head-to-head tomorrow.
Cockermouth will host Keswick at the Raymond Denham Sandair Oval in the League’s match of the day.
Keswick lead their rivals by just four points with champions Furness five points further back in third.
It’s a crucial game and Cumbria Crack’s John Walsh talks below to Keswick’s Glen Weightman about the prospects. He also takes the opportunity to ask about Glen’s appointment as head coach at Aspatria rugby union.
But almost as big is the game at Furness where the champions host Whitehaven.
Furness have played their way back into contention after a slow start to the season while Whitehaven have suffered two damaging defeats in the last fortnight.
Whitehaven were the last team to remain unbeaten but have lost in successive games to the top two Keswick and Cockermouth.
They need to stop the rot while Furness will sense an opportunity to close further on the leaders, so this could be a tight affair.
Playing their way into contention recently have been Workington, up to fourth and just 12 points behind the leaders.
There’s no question that key to that has been the form of excellent new pro Vishva Chathuranga who is the League’s leading run scorer.
They face a trip tomorrow to the improving Cleator side who are only six points behind their visitors.
There’s another interesting contest at Dalton where the home side, next to bottom but who have promised a lot more in their defeats, entertain Wigton.
The Lowmoor Road side are a place above them in the table and are capable, on their day, of surprising the best – reference their win over Keswick!
So all in all four games which are too close to call.
However, the fifth game at Millom looks an opportunity for the home side to earn their fourth win of the season.
They host Carlisle seconds who have lost all six completed games, and have found it tough after their promotion.
Overall it’s an entertaining and very interesting fixture list.
