Workington Town hope to carry their second-half form from Sunday into this weekend’s trip to play Salford.
Jonty Gorley’s men had a poor opening quarter, going 22-0 behind to visitors Oldham but then came back to lead 24-22.
They still led four minutes from the end but the Roughyeds produced a big finish with a converted try.
Gorley was encouraged with that effort, as his side at last carried training ground skills onto the field of play – although the poor start to the game was still a concern.
For the trip to play Salford the West Cumbrians will be without Callum Phillips, one of their most consistent players over the season so far.
He has a hamstring issue and has to miss out along with long-time absentees Oscar Doran, Spencer Fulton, Jake Bradley and Alex Donaghy.
The good news is that half-back pairing of Jake Carter and Dom Wear are both fit to resume.
Salford have only named a squad of 20 but it includes a familiar face in in Nathan Lowe on loan from Wigan Warriors. He played for them earlier in the season under a similar arrangement against Hunslet.
