Organisers of this year’s Royal Port of Barrow Festival of the Sea are appealing for sponsors to come forward to help make the event bigger and better than ever before.
Celebrating the vital role of the port in the town’s maritime heritage, and local culture, the annual event regularly welcomes up to 20,000 people and sees sailing ships, small boats and sea cadet training vessels moored at Town Quay.
The royal title was bestowed on the port by King Charles in 2025.
The festival’s maritime co-ordinator, Andy Naylor, said: “The honour the King bestowed on the port was in recognition of town’s role in Britain’s trade and shipbuilding.
“The port’s heritage and current work, along with the shipyard’s significant contribution to the UK’s defence over many decades, are a part of the town’s history – and its future.
“The festival has benefitted from a grant from Barrow Town Council, and Associated British Ports, but with some more sponsorship we can add to the list of attractions.
“These include live music, family-friendly activities, maritime-themed entertainment, and local food vendors.
“There are also opportunities for local artists, makers, and organisations to showcase their work.
“Bringing the community together, highlighting Barrow’s coastal identity, and creating a welcoming space, are all part of the experience.”
Organisations which benefit from the day include the RNLI and Cumbria Blood Bikes.
