Carlisle’s first purpose-built Padel courts are now open to the public.

AF Active Padel has four dedicated courts.

Padel is the world’s fastest growing racquet sport and blends tennis with squash. Usually played by doubles in an enclosed glass court, it is a fast-paced and sociable sport.

The new facility, at Austin Friars’ Etterby Scaur site, saw 120 people attend its launch last weekend.

People can book a court from 7am to 8am and 5pm to 9pm on weekdays and 7am to 9pm at weekends.

From July 4, the courts will be available from 7am to 9pm every day.

Court hire is £38 for a 60-minute session or £52 for 90 minutes, with each court accommodating up to four players.

Racquets can be rented from an on-site vending machine for £3 each and balls are purchasable for £6.50 for three.

Free parking is available.

Plans are in the pipeline for more sports facilities at the site, including a 3G pitch.
