A West Cumbrian village bridge will be closed for up to five days for essential maintenance.

Cumberland Council will start work on Blaze Bridge on the U2199 at Lorton, near Cockermouth on Monday, July 6.

It said it was part of its ongoing work to maintain safety and the condition of the structure.

The work will take place over five days, subject to weather and site conditions.

The road will be closed between 9am and 3.30pm each day.

A diversion route will be in place for the duration of the work. Access for emergency services, pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times.
