Cumbria Men’s Division One leaders Aspatria Hornets suffered their first defeat of the season.

It was a close-run affair with Egremont A at Gillfoot Park but a converted try three minutes from the end gave the home side a 34-28 win.

Then hosts scored three first-half tries in a seven-minute purple patch before the Hornets hit back with a try from strong-running Alfie Deans which Ben Tootill converted.

Egremont led 14-6 at the break and were playing up the hill in the second-half but responded well to the interval team talk.

They scored tries on 45 and 48 minutes to get their noses in front. Ellis Holliday scored the first and Deans bagged his second with another barn-storming run.

Egremont went ahead twice but each time Aspatria replied with two tries by Stuart Creighton. Tootill finished with four goals.

The Hornets had chances to win the game but Egremont scored the winner on 77 minutes when experienced man of the match John Paul Brocklebank created space for his centre Jack Conway to score.

The Egremont tries were scored by Conway (2), Nathan Preston (2), Brocklebank, Dan Telford and Tyler Elliott. There was a goal apiece from Conway, Brocklebank and Jack Stainton.

Tightest game was at Lowca where the home side edged-out Kells A 24-20 with tries from Quinn Ennis, Keith Campbell, Tom Spires, Finn Barwise and Elliot Hodgson who kicked two goals.

For Kells A there were tries from Kai Rutherford, Kevin Agnew, Paul Cullnean and Scott Lofthouse. Ellis McKee kicked two goals.

Flimby Vikings are doing it tough at the moment and they went down 64-0 at home to Cockermouth Titans.

In the town derby Glasson Rangers avenged an earlier defeat to Maryport A by winning the return 32-22.

It was a second win in a row for Glasson who have been shaping better week by week, scoring seven tries to four in this one.

Crossing the home line were Peter Fearon, Matt Burns, Shane Williams, Luke Johnson, Brad Oglanby, Tyler Beales and Tom Currie. Lee Tremble and Johnson each kicked a goal.

Maryport A responded with tries by Lewis Walling (2), Charlie Bowman and Ewan Laverty with goals from Craig Foster and Walling (2).

Hensingham A were 66-4 winners at home to Millom A when footballer Travis Fyfe showed his credentials with the oval ball from full-back by scoring five tries.

Dane Richardson (2) also crossed and the other touchdowns came from James Stanaway, Ben McPherson, Theo Crowe, Gareth Gates, Gary Palmer and Nathan Paterson.

Fyfe, a regular goal-scorer for Windscale in the Wearside League, scored a hat-trick of length of the field tries in his five.

Richardson kicked seven goals while hooker Jack Procter scored the Millom try.

In the other game Askam beat Roose Pioneers 44-14 with tries from Morgan Cubbins (2), Mark Tyson (2), Tom Hopkins (2), Aaron McIntosh and Rob Cockayne. Connor Saunders landed six conversions.

Veteran Glen Phillips (2) and Matty Roberts scored the Roose tries with Roberts converting one.
