‘It’s a Groundhog Day nightmare’ – Jonty Gorley’s verdict on Workington Town’s performance

Workington Town have to find some consistency to finish the season in the right manner after a disappointing campaign so far.

Sunday’s 52-28 defeat at Salford left Town fourth bottom with the improving Swinton Lions level on points but with two games in hand.

The only two clubs below them are Halifax and North Wales Crusaders who both have had points deducted.

They have eight games left to play starting with Hunslet at home this Sunday and ending on August 30 with another game at the Fibrus Community Stadium against local rivals Whitehaven.

In between they have Sheffield (away, July 19), Keighley (home, July 26), Newcastle (home, August 2), Midlands Hurricanes (away, August 9), Rochdale (home, August 16) and Widnes (away, August 23).

Coach Jonty Gorley’s frustration was all to evident again after another error-strewn performance had contributed to Sunday’s defeat at Salford.

With a couple of days to reflect on the latest setback, Gorley gave his assessment to Cumbria Crack below:
