People have been urged to carefully consider heading out into the Lake District fells as temperatures continue to soar.
Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team said it is asking walkers, runners, families, and dog owners to think twice about tackling fells in the hot weather.
A spokesman said: “If you’re already feeling warm at the car, you’ll feel much hotter once you start climbing.
“The fells offer very little shade, heat reflects off the rock, and dehydration sets in fast.
“And if you’re struggling in the heat, imagine how hot our volunteers get when carrying medical bags, stretchers, ropes, water, and technical kit up steep ground in full PPE. Please help us avoid preventable call outs.
“Thank you for helping us keep the fells safe for everyone – people, dogs, and our volunteers.”
They also reminded people that if it’s too hot for humans outside it’s also too hot for dogs.
Dogs cannot sweat like humans and they overheat quickly.
The team said this can be worse on fells especially on hot rock, long ascents, and in direct sun.
The team added before you set off, ask yourself:
- Is this the right day for a big route?
- Do I have enough water for me and my dog?
- Do I have a backup plan if the heat becomes too much??
- Can I shorten my route to stay safe?
