There’s another top four battle in prospect this weekend as the Cumbria League’s Premier Division reaches the halfway point of the season.
Second-placed Furness and Workington, who are fourth, have been moving steadily up the table and with five wins in a row each, have the best recent form of anyone.
Champions Furness will host their West Cumbrian rivals in a real match of the day which could be an intriguing battle of the two professionals.
Promod Maduwantha, of Furness, and Vishva Chathuranga, of Workington, are both highly regarded and have been scoring freely so this could be a key match up.
Furness made a slow start but are now just nine points behind leaders Keswick, but only three points better off than Workington.
We spotlight Workington this week and Cumbria Crack’s John Walsh has been talking to long-serving player Matt Lowden.
Listen to their chat below:
Cockermouth, after their defeat to Keswick last week, are now in third place but it’s tight and are only two points behind Furness.
Matt Sempill’s side are back at Sandair again tomorrow against Wigton who have lost their last four games, but are also capable of pulling off shock victories on their day.
Keswick have won their last four games – including key victories over Whitehaven and Cockermouth – and will not want to slip up at home to Cleator.
The biggest slump has been by Whitehaven who played three of the leading sides – Cockermouth, Keswick and Furness and lost them all.
They need to get their act together again quickly but Millom will travel north not prepared to roll over meekly. Could be a tight game.
In the other game Carlisle 2nds entertain Dalton, two sides who have just one win between them. That was recorded by Dalton last week, beating Wigton by 67 runs.
