Stainton won the Cumbria Junior League Cup at Under-13s level when they beat Cleator by four wickets.
The final was staged at Cleator’s JD Campbell Memorial Ground and Stainton invited their hosts to bat first on winning the toss.
India Parker bowled a fine opening spell, removing both Cleator openers for just one apiece and 2-2 off her two overs, with Cleator 8-2, was a promising start for the visitors.
The Cleator innings was given substance by Josh Jenkinson (30ret) and largely through his efforts, with the help of Joel Farager (13) they got the 20-overs total up to 96-5 – also helped by 33 extras.
Stainton’s reply didn’t start well as they were struggling on 16-3 before Ben Hall (33ret) and Max Gibbons (30ret) moved them well towards the target. In the end Hermione Holliday (8no) steered her side over the finish line at 97-7 with 4.3 overs to spare.
Jenkinson (2-4) and Theo Lofthouse (2-11) bowled well for Cleator.
