A bid to build 15 luxury lodges at M-Sport’s West Cumbrian base is set to be given the go-ahead.
The motorsport company wants to build the lodges at its Dovenby Hall estate, near Cockermouth and they would be used for short overnight stays for conferences, corporate events and hospitality events.
Members of Cumberland Council’s planning committee will discuss the application next Wednesday.
It is proposed that the lodges will becreated around a curving access road which encloses a proposed water feature.
A report to the committee said: “Two bespoke lodges are proposed on the edge of this, with a hot tub located on decking which will be cantilevered over the water feature.
“The lodges will be clad externally in timber.
“New planting is proposed between the lodge pitches, and each pitch will have two car parking bays with EV charging points.”
Ward councillor Martin Harris (Dearham and Broughton, Labour) has raised a number of concerns over the application including flood risk, noise, increased traffic, the effect on the natural environment and effect on a nearby listed building.
Five objections to the scheme were sent to the council, which raised concerns over overdevelopment; the wrong type accommodation; and other established holiday units in the area that could cater for proposed market.
