A new monthly market has been launched in Whitehaven.
The first event took place in the town centre on Saturday July 18 following requests from traders for additional opportunities after the regular Whitehaven market was withdrawn.
Cumberland Council said the event aimed to bring more people into the town centre, support local businesses and provide access to a wide range of products, including fresh produce, crafts, gifts and locally made items.
Michael Barry, assistant director of thriving places at Cumberland Council, said: “The feedback from both traders and visitors following the first market has been really positive.
“The market was introduced in response to requests from local businesses, and it’s encouraging to see it already attracting people into the town centre.
“We look forward to working with traders to build on this success and establish a regular market that supports local businesses and adds to Whitehaven’s town centre offer.”
The market will return on Saturday August 15 and will continue on the third Saturday of every month until Christmas, and the authority said there were plans to possibly extend it further.
